Worth it.

When the alarm went off at 5:45 in the morning I hated it. Why am I doing this to myself? I could be sleeping in my warm bed for as long as I wished. After all, this was supposed to be my summer vacation. But against every instinct of my body and with great struggle I somehow got up, quietly packed all the necessary stuff and around 6 a.m. left my hostel in Chamonix. While walking along the empty streets I was yawning and looking at Google Maps, hoping to find the right path towards Pointe de Lapaz – a 2300 meters high ridge opposite to the Mont Blanc. Luck was on my side; soon I was walking uphill through the forest. And as I breathed the fresh morning air and the skies to the east behind the mountains started shining in gold, I thought to myself that this might have been a pretty good decision after all. The sleepiness was soon gone. Legs suddenly felt a lot lighter. At around 8 a.m. I reached the top near the Refuge Bellachat. I stood at the edge of the slope looking at the glorious sight of the mighty peaks of the Mont Blanc massif bathing in the morning sunlight. And I thought: ‘Yep, it was worth it. It was so worth it.’
